Kristen King, Principal

A former Jersey girl, Kristen grew up with two self-employed parents — her father builds custom homes and her mother is a professional beekeeper — so it was only a matter of time before the entrepreneurship gene kicked into high gear. When she decided to launch her freelancing career in 2004, just months after graduating from Mary Washington, Kristen knew it was the right decision.

Only 4 years later, after taking a full-time publishing job to support her freelance aspirations and then leaving it after 20 months to pursue freelancing full time, Kristen has established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the freelance writing world, writing an award-winning blog for writers and a leading women’s health blog, serving an international client base, and becoming a sought-after speaker for communications organizations in the Washington, DC, area.

Kristen brings to the table experience in newspapers, mainstream and niche magazines, print and online literary journals, and medical and trade/professional publications, along with a strong work ethic and infectious enthusiasm. In 2007, she completed her Master of Professional Studies degree in publishing at The George Washington University. Her drive and commitment to success extend to her clients’ business, and she’s not happy until they are.

Kristen is a member of the Board of Directors of American Independent Writers and the Editorial Board of the journal Science Editor. In her spare time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her husband and their three dogs and three cats. She also authors a blog on freelance writing and communications, a pet blog, and a women’s general interest blog.
